Merge PDF files on Mac

Document order matters when combining a proposal, appendices and drawings into one PDF. FilePilot’s Merge PDFs tool prepares a new output from selected documents. Start with sample files to check the workflow.

For a brief and two appendices, place the brief first and then the appendices. Save the output as Project-package.pdf. Comparing its page count with the source documents helps reveal a mistaken selection.

Does merging perform OCR?

Merging combines documents. If a scanned PDF needs text recognition, use the separate text extraction / OCR tool. Do not treat merging as automatic OCR.

How to use it

  1. Select the PDFs in Finder or gather them in a collection panel. For example, use 01-Brief.pdf and 02-Appendix.pdf.
  2. Open Merge PDFs from the FilePilot actions available for the selection. Check that you selected merging rather than extracting pages.
  3. Review the files and order displayed in the tool. Correct missing, duplicate or unreadable documents before saving.
  4. Choose a name and destination for the new PDF. Open the result and check page order, total page count and readability.

Scope and considerations

Password-protected, damaged or inaccessible PDFs may need additional steps. Merging signed documents does not guarantee that digital signatures remain valid in the new output. Keep the originals separately.
